Born on June 18, 1972, to Mr. M.T. Paulson and Mrs. K.V. Maggy, Aby Paul was raised in a middle-class Christian family in Thrissur. His formative years were spent as a young Chaldean Syrian boy in this little town. After completing his basic education in the local schools of Thrissur, Aby pursued his pre-degree and degree education at the prestigious St. Thomas College between 1987 and 1992.
Dr. Aby Paul’s creation of the Cosine Seminar and Exhibition illustrates his expertise in engaging students and the community in scientific exploration, making science accessible and exciting for a broader audience.
The right advice at the right time significantly influenced Aby Paul’s journey. His decision to pursue postgraduate education at the esteemed St. Joseph’s College in Bangalore marked a breakthrough in his life. His scientific inquisitiveness and explorative outlook propelled him into the world of scientific research. This foundation was further strengthened at the University of Madras, where he earned his M.Phil degree in Analytical Chemistry from India’s first department dedicated to this field.
Aby Paul’s career as a scientist took off with a prosperous position at Asia’s leading pesticide company, Rallis Research Centre in Bangalore. He served there for three years, during which time his research ambitions continued to grow. However, Aby faced a decisive phase that changed his future and redirected his career path.
In 1998, Aby Paul experienced a significant change of heart, prompting him to return to the grassroots level of education. Chaldean Syrian HSS, which was in its infancy, needed strong leadership and support. Aby’s arrival at the school brought a wave of positive change. His shift from a scientist to a higher secondary teacher and eventually to the head of the institution in 2004 marked the beginning of massive transformations at Chaldean Syrian HSS.
Despite his administrative and teaching responsibilities, Aby Paul’s passion for research never waned. In 2014, he was awarded a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Calicut. The same year, he received both the District and State Best Teacher Awards, recognizing his contributions to education. His school continued to undertake various social upliftment projects, such as the Hair Donation Campaign, which saw 117 girl students donating their hair to cancer patients at Amala Cancer Institute, Thrissur. Additionally, he contributed in the “Oru Kai Sahayam” Programme, distributing 40 food packets daily to needy people in Thrissur Corporation.
Aby Paul’s dedication and committed workmanship culminated in the National Best Teacher Award, a tribute to his unending pursuit of excellence. His dream project of a sports complex within the school compound has been completed with the support of the management and staff. He mentored the first Church museum in Thrissur district named Mathaka as a tribute to the church of the East for all the blessings he incurred from God. The great heights he has achieved in a short span serve as a motivation to everyone associated with him.
Aby Paul’s family has been a pillar of support throughout his journey. His wife, Smt. Saly Peter C., also a Higher Secondary teacher, along with their two children, Glenn Paul Aby and Gemin Magy Aby, have stood by him. Aby’s humility is evident in his often-quoted comment, “This is not my success alone; this is the success of my team, and I am just your representative to receive this award.” His achievements continue to inspire those around him.
